Sustainable House Day 2010 Kangaroo Island Guided House Tour, South Australia 

what:
As part of Sustainable House Day activities in South Australia, local architect Emilis Prelgauskas will be conducting a guided tour of a selection of sustainable homes on Kangaroo Island. This specialised tour by bus permits conversation both in transit and when at each of the houses to be viewed.

 When:
Sunday September 12th  2010 begins at Penneshaw wharf 10.30am ends Penneshaw wharf 6pmÂ
Cost:
To participants $55/person which includes bus and lunch; with participants to arrange own ferry travel to & from Island, and incidental costs such as lunchtime drinks, etc.

Seats available:
The bus seats 20 persons (9 places already taken).

Itinerary:
10.30am – 11.30am Penneshaw house of Pat Goodwin & Les Montanjees Â
12.30 – 1.30pm   Kingscote lunch at Bella’s Restaurant Â
2pm – 3pm    Rose Cottage Road house of Mark & Jeanette Gellard Â
4pm – 5pm   Pelican Lagoon house of Bob & Jenny Teasdale Â
6pm at ferry     

Houses included  

Freycinet Way, Penneshaw Pat Goodwin & Les Montanjees Straw bale house with timber boat building techniques used in the framing, for both yoga contemplation and music composition owners with organic garden and grid connect solar power, and passive comfort principles.    

Rose Cottage Road Mark & Jeanette Gellard Steel exoskeleton framed and aerated concrete infill house with stand alone wind turbine and solar system, water and waste systems, passive comfort principles include south facing clerestorey.    

Pelican Lagoon Bob & Jenny Teasdale House used for visiting eco teaching groups. Exoskeleton and framed infill, steel lining, earth berm to limestone walls, stand alone solar, water and waste systems, passive comfort principles include north facing clerestorey.    

These diverse houses permit different solutions to different micro-climate sites to be reviewed and compared. Only a limited number of places are available, as site access limits the size of bus which can be used.
